Thank you. Wisdom comes from learning. This post confirms this and I loved it. I learnt a few new things too 😊❤️

Such a clear explanation. Thank you.

Poetically I one explained it in wine idiom.

It is the perfume of action lingering in the cellar of time.

It is the flavor of forgotten choices swirling in the present.

It is the wine we taste, the vine we tended and the vintage we forgot we planted.

But it is not who we are.

🙏 gratitude Meredith. I just thought a moment of being born into a pure and prosperous family. I felt so much abundance. Thanks for shedding light on karma and making this world remind that none of the actions go unnoticed be it papa or punya.

Meredith's avatar

Yes keep doing good actions and entertaining good thoughts… be as selfless as you possibly can and you will be born into a home of the pure and prosperous — That doesn’t necessarily mean next life; It could be this one.

Thankyou Meredith - what a great reminder of What Karma is. It certainly has an energy that delivers what we need to learn/understand. Sometimes Karma is instant! other times & if we are honest with ourselves, we know why Karma was delivered! I love the reminder of positive thinking with kindness and thinking of others, as a natural state of Being:_)

Meredith's avatar

Yes… whether the result is immediate or delayed, it is never unjust — only precise. With understanding, we see that karma is not punishment, but compassion in disguise, guiding us back to the Self.

Thank you for the explanation, it makes a lot of sense. It is humbling to understand that even every thought can have rebound.

Meredith's avatar

We can dismiss most thoughts but it’s the ones that keep resurfacing that need to be checked and perhaps pulled into line.

Great Article!! Loved it.

Thank you, Kris. Appreciate that.

If we don’t like something in our life right now, it shows us what seeds we planted in the past. Which means we can plant different seeds today for a different future.

Meredith's avatar

Correct. Thoughts are seeds. Let’s keep planting and nurturing beautiful seeds … thank you.

"the law of karma is not a threat; it’s a teacher"

Yes! I've learned that so powerfully over the last few years. That we create our reality with our Thoughts.

I have become very aware of my Thoughts and have learned to remind myself with a question ..'Is this the reality you are choosing?"

It stops me in my tracks sometimes😳🤣

Meredith's avatar

I get that Vivienne. It’s a great question to ask yourself. ..”Is this the reality you are choosing?" Perfect

Thank you for teaching the meaning of karma.

You are most welcome Rishabh. Thank you for reading.

I loved how you explained karma as a natural law rather than divine judgment.

It reminded me of the deeper insight from the Upanishads Yatha Pinde Tatha Brahmande as the inner is, so is the outer. Karma isn’t chasing us, it’s simply our inner state unfolding in the world around us. When the being changes, the doing naturally follows.

Meredith's avatar

Correct. What i write here on Substack is based on the Upanishads, Gita, Vedanta. Have studied these texts for 33 years.

I have this odd sort of respect/fear of Karma, but I don't trust it and it's often not dramatic or obvious enough for me. Once though, I had a disagreement with some asshole at an airport gas station and told him I hoped his plane crashes. Of course we ended up on the same flight. I was very afraid of Karma for those two hours. My wife, who doesn't like to fly to begin with, was not amused.

Meredith's avatar

I hear you. And I’m laughing. Thank you. Karma is a tricky one, especially to explain to Westerners who haven’t grown up with the concept. This has been one of my struggles since I became a Vedanta philosophy teacher.

Karma is not visible, except when we, as Steve Jobs says, connect the dots backwards.

Just because you curse someone doesn’t mean the curse will come true. It doesn’t work like that. However, if you think negatively of people, over a period of time, you will feel the effects of karma; and it won’t be pleasant. So ering on the right side, always choose a more positive outlook — treat people well, be kind, considerate and as loving as possible. Then you’ll see the positives roll in. Guaranteed.

You're pretty cool for a Vendanta philosophy teacher :). It occurred to me as I was writing my reply that the Karma may have been in the actual fear I had the plane would crash combined with the shit I was getting from my wife. I've read a lot about Steve Jobs. A lot to admire, but talk about assholes!

As you sow, so shall you reap.

Is a powerful statement -

it applies to all of us.

Some learn the hard way

others are reminded by their behavior it is a fact

Great post

In other words; Karma is the result of accumulated intentions. :) The tricky part is, to know our real intentions. We humans more than often fool ourself, thinking we are having good intentions, but fail to see that the intentions are driven by attachment and/or aversion. ;) But since we are grown up in this materialistic world, where we only learn to be greedy and be against this and that. So no wonder, so many are having a hard time ;)

I would add one point:

Negative thoughts have much less power to influence things than positive thoughts.

So if your mind has 20 negative thoughts, don’t fuss over it.

If you can have one positive thought or just pray for some help to see this differently( the prayer itself is a positive thought) your karma is fine.

You may wonder, so many negativity going around why we haven’t destroyed humanity?

Because positive thoughts held by the few are balancing the negative thoughts held by the masses.
