I will never forget the day I felt/ became aware of/ experienced my mind and intellect as separate things. To hear my mind try and drag me into an emotional state, and then immediately hear my intellect say, no, don't go there. There is no benefit in behaving in that way. This is thanks to Meredith and her teachings.

thanks, Karen for jumping in here and helping out. @RJ Ramey it’s as simple as this.

I love how you bring us back to the discerning faculty of Buddhi, the intellect. The mind is doubt...doubting perceptions...that's where all the trouble begins, whereas intellect helps the mind to discern between the real and unreal... I love to think of the intellect like Saraswati's vehicle, the swan. It separates the milk from the water :)...As always your words remind me how powerful the art of contemplation is. Thank you

The subtle intellect is the swan. Thank you Rachel 🙏🤍

This was a helpful read as I also demonised the intellect for a long time. I’m starting to sense that it was a misconception.

I believe I can feel the essence of what you are saying like a half formed though. But I still haven’t completely wrapped my head around it yet.

As I understand it, the mind will ramble and drift without the intellects discerning directive.

But how do you differentiate the intellect from the mind? Or to put the same question another way, what does it feel like when the intellect is in ‘control’… is it a feeling? Clear thought? Raw Intuition? Effortless flow? Something else?

I will continue to contemplate.

First of all, 95% of the world has this misconception. This is why my job is so difficult

Secondly, it took me years to understand the difference between the mind and the intellect and to see how they function within us, so be patient with yourself.

Thirdly, you begin to differentiate the intellect from the mind through your own observation. You know the mind is functioning when you are agitated, anxious, stressed, frustrated or emotional.

You know the intellect is functioning when you are clear, levelheaded, rational, reasonable, more detached. It is a knowing rather than a feeling. When you develop this practice of observation, it is transformational. Let me know how you go.
